Dan Cammish:
“It was a bit of a disaster in qualifying. I had a misunderstanding with a Pro-Am 2 driver, and it almost ruined the car completely. Redline did an amazing job but I was lucky to get one lap on the board.
“Getting past Tio was tough. I’ve raced him a lot before, he drove well and was quite aggressive. He had a strong engine, and I could not keep up but eventually, I had to give it a go and managed to get it done.
“I think I drove one of the best races of my career. These guys are very experienced, but I drove the wheels of it and to push second place over the line was really a great result. We had a really good car and I just got brave on the brakes into the final chicane a few times. I managed to get Lewis around the outside into the first corner and then going down through the Craners. It was heart in the mouth stuff, but it was probably one of my best races and I’m pretty proud of the result.”
Daniel Cammish demonstrated his racing ability in round three of the Porsche Carrera Cup at Donington Park by moving from a tenth-place grid start to third and a podium finish.
The Leeds-based driver had an incident in qualifying when trying to pass a slower car, the two collided and Dan was ruled out of the remainder of the session. The net result being his only quick lap was used to set his grid slot of tenth place.
Come the race however and Dan was on it. He gained two places before the second corner and set his sights on the seventh place of series newcomer Tio Ellinas. Dan tried for a number of laps to overtake before the opportunity presented itself into the final chicane.
After that, the Nationwide Crash Repairs/PPG Paint-backed car scythed its way through the field, with Wrigley, Oliphant and McKay all dismissed in a matter of laps. Lewis Plato was now the one driver standing between Dan and the podium. After hunting him down, Dan was able to make a bold move around the outside of the first corner, which positioned him correctly to make the move stick through the Craner Curves. With five laps to go Dan set about catching Dino Zamparelli. The gap came down considerable from over two-seconds to little more than two car lengths, but Dan ran out of time to make a move. Third place and 16 points mean that he retains the lead of the championship tied with team-mate and race winner Charlie Eastwood.
The 33-lap race two takes place on Sunday at 13:35. Dan will start in 20th position and the race will be broadcast live on ITV4. This one is not to be missed.
