Dan Cammish:
“Honestly, when I came around for the first time, I couldn’t believe it. There were just rivers everywhere. Heading into turn one I could feel it lifting the rear of the car up and I was just a passenger. I held it, but then around the back of the circuit, there were even more rivers so when you hit them you have a massive moment. I don’t know how more people didn’t go off because I was quite sideways!
“The track just got faster and faster and I got two good laps in at the end. I timed it just right both with when we came in and the way the traffic just parted on my last lap.
“The race could be dry, and it would be nice, but it’s important to have the holeshot at this circuit because it’s difficult to overtake. We can do a good job I think, and this circuit’s been good to me.”
Daniel Cammish tamed treacherous conditions at Oulton Park to claim a double pole position for the fifth and sixth Porsche Carrera Cup GB races of the season.
The session was delayed by over half an hour due to a lengthy downpour, but Dan was one of several drivers to survive a few heart-stopping moments around the saturated 2.23-mile Cheshire-based circuit. As the weather quickly relented, conditions improved, and times began to tumble in the final minutes. Dan saved his best two laps until last, an ultimate best time of 1m29.997s enough to grab pole position by 0.546s from Dino Zamparelli at the final time of asking.
The Nationwide Crash Repair/PPG-backed driver has a soft spot for the Cheshire circuit having claimed four poles and three wins in the last two Carrera Cup GB seasons, a tally that he feels confident he can add to this weekend come rain or shine.
Race one gets underway at 5:05 pm on Saturday afternoon, with race two being broadcast live on ITV4 at 3.25 pm on Sunday.
