Dan Cammish:
“It’s going to be my first time racing at Le Mans. It’s a dream just to go to Le Mans and it will be an amazing experience driving the circuit. The championship itself has been here before back in 2014, but this is the first time that a lot of us have been there to actually compete, so at least it’s not just me!
“We’ll be pitted against the French drivers also which will make it tougher, but I’m certain that we can go there and do the job for the British series. We score points for our own championship too of course, so it’s important to finish and be the highest-placed Brit. It would be a dream to go there and win it overall, which I think we can manage.
“Nationwide is coming down so it’ll be a great experience for my sponsors to be there. It’s one of the three biggest races in the world, so we’ll enjoy it both on and off the track.”
Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship leader Daniel Cammish heads to Le Mans this weekend for round seven around the famous 8.49-mile circuit.
Dan reclaimed the championship lead after a double victory at Oulton Park and now leads team-mate, Charlie Eastwood, by 11 points, the duo being the only drivers to win races so far this season. The Carrera Cup last raced at Le Mans in 2014 when the UK championship joined the French Carrera Cup and other invited drivers, a dramatic race ensured with a burst tyre deciding the winner on the final lap.
The circuit will present a number of unique challenges to Dan and the rest of the field as they compete in not only the longest race of the year but also the longest racing lap. Only three of the current Carrera Cup GB drivers have previously raced around the 38-turn circuit which means that the majority of the drivers are starting from square one. Dan is not daunted by this prospect however and will be looking to put in another commanding performance in the Nationwide Crash Repair/PPG paint backed car.
The cars will hit the track for the first 45-minute free practice session on Thursday morning at 10:30 CET. Free practice two follows at 11:55 with a one-hour qualifying session taking place soon after at 15:30. The 45-minute race starts at 10:15 and will conclude only a few hours before the main 24-hour race starts at 3 pm. The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport and streamed on Porsche.com.
